Happy Turkey Day!

All of us with Get Fit Festus hope you and your family have a safe and happy Holiday Season.   On these days there are several opportunities to over eat and be less active.  Below are a few tips on how to be more active on the holidays to come.  Give them a try, you will thank yourself.

1. When at work, take the steps down (and several flights up) instead of the elevator. Hand deliver messages to colleagues instead of using the telephone or E-mail.

2. When talking on the telephone, get up and walk around. Dance when listening to music.

3. When you go shopping at a mall, walk twice around the mall before you start shopping. Also, park your car far from the mall as possible. (Many malls open early for morning walking clubs see if your mall has one).

4. Make chores such as vacuuming, sweeping or raking, your chance to be active.

5. Select fitness-oriented gifts with your family member's skills and interests in mind.

6. Staying active is important, but so is spending time with your family and friends. You are going to have those days when you can't make it to the gym. It's not the end of the world if you miss a workout. That's not a healthy way to think." Get the most out of your holiday season by balancing social activities and self-care. "In terms of total well-being, there's room for fitness and for fun."

Good Eats, Healthy Treats!

Cooking Demo success! On October 30th, Thursday Get Fit Festus had a healthy cooking demonstration given by Carrie Weatherholt, Registered Dietitian and assisted by Molly Pollete from Jefferson County Health Department. Several came out for this event that was held at Immanuel Lutheran Family Life Center in Festus (many thanks to Immanuel Lutheran for the use of their facility). The menu for the evening was sloppy joes, basalmic roasted vegetables and pineapple cupcakes for desert. Click on the recipe name to download a copy for your kitchen.
